A Girlie's Guide to the Peninsula Vacay
Let me start by saying.. I’m 25 years old, and up until now, I’ve never traveled alone. I’ve always had a buddy, a group, a travel partner. So venturing from Belize City all the way to Placencia by myself? That was a big deal for me, lol.
But let me tell you; it was so worth it.
If you're a fellow girlie looking to take your first solo trip to the peninsula, here are some gems I'd like to share.
1. Getting There; Choose Convenience Over Chaos
Look, I’m not about to play mechanic on the highway. Flat tires and engine lights? Not for me. I opted for Maya Island Air, and I can’t recommend it enough. The flight was only 35 minutes and smooth sailing from takeoff to landing.
2. Where I Stayed, Right in the Heart of It All
Since this was just a quick two-day getaway, I didn’t want to cram my schedule with too many activities. Luckily, it was Lobster Fest weekend, so Placencia was already buzzing with energy and excitement. I stayed at Brisa Oceano, right in the heart of the village; everything was within walking distance, and right on the beach. Yes, please!
If you want a completely stress-free arrival, I highly recommend booking a shuttle through Brisa Oceano in advance. They’ll pick you up and drop you off at the airport; such AMAZING service, and way more affordable for the length of time versus getting a gulf cart!
As for my room? Surprisingly spacious for a standard! I had an entire sitting area.
3. Food, My Favorite Part 🍣
Let’s be real — I will go buck wild with my budget for food.
Every day I had sushi and let me tell you, KOI did not disappoint. I even tried the Sushi Bus for the first time (lobster sushi? Say less — FABULOUS!).
For breakfast, Beaches & Cream Café gave me cozy vibes and solid bites, but Wendy’s stole the show for a good ol’ Belizean breakfast. 10/10 recommend all places mentioned here!
4. Things to DO, Slow Travel, Sweet Moments
Placencia is rich with hidden gems. Whether it’s a stroll through the village, an ice cream stop, or finding a little tour shop to plan your next adventure, there’s always something to discover.
I recommend Ocean Motion Tours for exploring the cayes... super easy and reliable. And during Lobster Fest, the sidewalk transforms into a mini-market of local vendors. I loved seeing all the Belizean creativity in one place.
Slowing Down & Soaking In
This solo trip taught me how to just be. I spent my mornings with a good book on the beach, whispering prayers and having intimate moments with Jesus, enjoying every meal with intention, and allowing convenience to lead the way.
A Quick Note to Myself
Girl, get yourself some new luggage 😭 because holding that big bag on your shoulder was not cute.
This solo adventure has sparked something in me — and I’m already dreaming up my next one.
Have you solo traveled to Placencia before? I’d love to hear your favorite spots and what made your trip special. Drop a comment, let’s swap stories 💬
